RM130 mln bakery centre investment boost for Johor’s halal industry aspiration

An investment of RM130 million to develop the first Paris Baguette Singapore bakery production and distribution centre with halal certification at the Nusajaya Technology Park, Iskandar Puteri is in line with the Johor government’s intention to strengthen the halal industry in the state.
State Investment, Trade and Consumer Affairs Committee chairman Lee Ting Han posted on his Facebook page that this is because Johor has a large global halal food market of more than US$2 trillion (US$1=RM4.4).
“Apart from creating new employment opportunities directly, we are confident that this investment will also provide added value and attract other nearby or associated industries or companies to Johor as well as build a supply chain ecosystem for small and medium enterprises,” he said.
He said the investment proved that the state has an advantage in terms of strategic location and good infrastructure, including ports and airports that could support the development of a business to the region.
In fact, according to him, Johor also has educated and highly skilled human resources, a stable political environment and good cooperation between the state government and the central government.
“I would like to thank and congratulate those who worked hard to bring this investment to Johor, including Invest Johor, Malaysian Investment Development Authority, Iskandar Regional Development Authority and others. This investment would not be achieved without the hard work and cooperation of all,” he said.
Today, it was reported that Paris Baguette, owned by South Korean firm SPC Group, will invest RM130 million to develop the first halal-certified Paris Baguette bakery production and distribution centre in Johor.
SPC in a statement informed that the construction of the centre is expected to begin in the third quarter of this year and operate in June 2023 besides providing about 100 new job opportunities.
The centre, developed on a 16,500-square-metre site, will produce about 100 bakery products such as bread, cakes and desserts supplied to various Paris Baguette branches in Southeast Asian countries including Singapore, Vietnam, Cambodia and Indonesia.
