SMH Rail aims to raise export contribution to 60%

23 Sep 2022

Railway manufacturing and service provider, SMH Rail Sdn Bhd, aims to increase export contribution to 60% from the current 40%.

Chairman and managing director Datuk PK Nara said Malaysia’s railway industry has great potential in Europe and Germany could be SMH Rail’s gateway to that market.

“There is a lot of potential for Malaysian companies, including SMH Rail, (where we are) able to create a lot of economic (activities) in the industry,” he said in a statement issued by the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) on Friday.

Meanwhile, MATRADE Frankfurt Trade Commissioner Zuhaila Sedek said Malaysia’s railway manufacturing industry is experiencing rapid development.

She said although the size of the country’s industry is small, Malaysia has many high-calibre players and the capacity to explore international markets such as SMH Rail.

She added that MATRADE Frankfrut has implemented several business matching sessions with prospects among German companies and from other parts of Europe.

SMH Rail is a mid-level company facilitated by MATRADE to participate in the world-renowned rail industry trade exhibition Innotrans 2022 held on Sept 20-23, 2022 in Berlin, Germany.
