Increased investment from China will help Malaysia with its move to low-carbon development, says a business community leader.

Perak Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (PCCCI) president Datuk Liew Chee Ming said with tourists from China coming back to Malaysia, it is hoped that more investors will follow suit to set up factories here – especially in high-tech areas such as electric car manufacturing.

“China is an economic power in the world and plays a crucial role in every economic field.

“Since it has reopened its borders, we hope China’s economic recovery will contribute to the growth of neighbouring Asian countries, including Malaysia,” he said in his welcoming speech during the PCCCI Chinese New Year celebration at a hotel here on Thursday (Jan 26).

“PCCCI will work with the state government to bring more investors to Perak,” he added, noting that the state’s economic outlook was brightened by the influx of international tourists.

Low-carbon development aims to reduce carbon dioxide emissions while bringing about sustainable development of the economy, society and environment.

Attendees at the event included Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming, Science Technology and Innovation Minister Chang Lih Kang, Taiping MP Wong Kah Woh, and Perak police chief Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri.
