Tengku Zafrul: MITI futureproofing NAP 2020
12 Apr 2023
The Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) is in talks with industry players in the automotive sector to review the National Automotive Policy 2020 (NAP 2020) and ensure the policy remains relevant in the future.
Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz said this is in line with the advancement of technology, where many new developments, especially regarding energy-efficient vehicles (EEV) and electric vehicles (EV), needed attention.
He said NAP, which was launched for the period 2020 to 2030, is now nearing halfway through its implementation period and there are many new developments, especially in the automotive sector regarding EEV and EV.
“I do think that in any planning, especially long-term that is 10 years, we need to be dynamic and open to implement the necessary changes,” he told reporters after launching the Proton Rahmah 2023 campaign here today.
He said MITI would hold discussions with related agencies to review issues raised by the industry, regarding new technology, to not only remain relevant but also be the best.
Under NAP 2020, the local automotive industry has been set to be developed and grown as a regional automotive hub for EEV, including EV, with the characteristics of next-generation vehicles that function not only in terms of carbon emissions reduction but also able to optimise energy usage.
