Johor received RM10.6 billion in investment in first half of 2023, says exco

Johor has received RM10.6bil of committed investments in the first half of this year, says state Investment, Trade and Consumer Affairs Committee chairman Lee Ting Han.
He said that this was an increase of RM7.3bil or 221% compared to the same period last year where the state received RM3.3bil in investments.
“A total of 58 projects in the manufacturing sector involving some RM1.8bil of committed investments have been approved for the first half of this year.
“On top of that, another 147 projects in the service industry involving some RM8.76bil committed investment have also been approved, paving way to the creation of some 298 job opportunities,” he said during the state assembly sitting here.
He added that of the RM1.8bil of investments for the manufacturing sector, some RM1.35bil or 75% were from foreign direct investment while the remaining RM400mil were from domestic investments.
“The manufacturing sector is categorised into 12 sub-sectors where the electrical and electronic sub-sector received the highest amount of investment at RM1.12bil.
“Meanwhile, a project that has achieved the Malaysia Digital (previously known as the Multimedia Super Corridor) status has received the greatest number of investments at RM5.85bil,” he said.
Lee was responding to a question from Datuk Mohamad Najib (BN-Parit Yaani) who wanted to know the latest information about investments that Johor has received in the first half of this year.
On a separate matter, the Johor state assembly had also approved an additional allocation of RM16.972mil during the one-day sitting here on Thursday (June 15).
Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said that the additional budget derived from the Consolidated Fund for services expenditure for the year 2023, which was not fully allocated by the Supply (2023) Enactment 2022.
He said the additional budget comprised RM6.356mil meant for the state secretary office, RM10.6mil for the social welfare department and RM16,000 for the Segamat district office.
