IGEM 2023 to secure RM4bil in “green” investment prospects?

The upcoming International Greentech and Eco Products Exhibition and Conference Malaysia (IGEM 2023) is expected to secure RM4 billion in green technology and sustainability-led investment prospects, up from RM3 billion targeted last year.
Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation (MGTC) group chief executive officer Shamsul Bahar Mohd Nor said IGEM 2023 is gearing up to captivate attendees worldwide with its “exceptional” lineup of events.
“The gathering this year, which is expected to attract about 40,000 visitors, will feature 400 exhibition participants from various countries including China, Taiwan, the Netherlands and Sweden,” he told reporters at the soft launch of the International Electric Mobility Showcase (IEMS 2023) here today.
IEMS 2023, organised by MGTC and Qube Integrated Malaysia Sdn Bhd, will be held in conjunction with IGEM 2023.
The showcase will return for its second year at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from Oct 4-6.
Investment, International Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz said IEMS 2023 emerges as the ideal platform, perfectly timed as the industry surges beyond its potential.
Tengku Zafrul said the government is fully committed to providing unwavering support by constructing supportive policies and offering enticing incentives to propel the success of EV industry players.
“This will cement Malaysia’s position as a frontrunner in the Asean EV market and beyond,” he added.
Meanwhile, Tengku Zafrul said the government is committed to achieving an ambitious target of having over 15 per cent of total industry volume to be electric vehicles (EVs) by 2030 and 38 per cent by 2040.
He said the government is also committed to providing convenient access of 10,000 charging facilities across the nation by 2025 for EV users.
“Additionally, we are exploring collaborations with renewable energy providers to promote the use of clean energy sources for charging EVs.
“All these require a strong and formidable collaboration across ministries and agencies. The ministry is leading the charge toward a brighter future for Malaysia’s electric mobility, supported by multiple agencies and private entities to pave the way for a thriving EV ecosystem in Malaysia,” he added.
