Six companies to invest RM525.3 mln in Penang under smart partnership with NCIA

23 Jul 2020

Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA) has forged a smart partnership with six companies in Penang through its human capital EmpowerNCER Phase Two programme which is expected to generate 1,600 jobs and enhance the incomes of people in the state.

The six are PTS Industries Sdn Bhd, Clarivate Analytics Malaysia Sdn Bhd, Iconic Penang Sdn Bhd, Osram Opto Semiconductors Sdn Bhd, UWHM Sdn Bhd and Coraza Systems Malaysia Sdn Bhd.

Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said through the collaboration, the state would receive a capital investment of RM525.3 million from the companies.

He also said the state government welcomed the efforts of NCIA in expanding the EmpowerNCER programme so that small entrepreneurs and those from the B40 group who had lost their jobs could join the programme, together with youth and women.

“Today we witnessed six companies which have committed to invest in Penang through the facilitation of NCIA and state and federal agencies. In conjunction with this, we are appointing four district officers under the EmpowerNCER programme, following the appointment for the Seberang Perai Tengah district at the end of the last year where the programme has already started.

“The four district officers who received their appointment letters today will start the programme, which is under the NCIA, in their respective districts,” he told a media conference after the launching ceremony of the EmpowerNCER @ Penang Phase Two here today.

Also in attendance were the chief executive officer of  NCIA Datuk Seri Jebasingam Issace John, Penang state secretary Datuk Abdul Razak Jaafar and representatives from state departments and agencies.

The EmpowerNCER programme provides skills training and entrepreneurship opportunities aimed at enhancing the socioeconomic levels of communities. It also offers additional income opportunities by job offerings or by starting a micro business.
