Malaysia’s manufacturing sales rise 1.9% to RM119.3b in July 2020

Malaysia’s manufacturing sales in July 2020 stood at RM119.3 billion, growing 1.9% compared to the previous year, while on a month-to-month basis, the sales value increased 2.1%, according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM).
Chief statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin, in a statement today, said the year-on-year growth in sales value in July 2020 was driven by the increase in the sales of food, beverage and tobacco products (24.9%), transport equipment and other manufactures products (14.3%) and electrical and electronics products (8.4%).
Meanwhile, the sub-sectors that supported the month-on-month growth were transport equipment and other manufactures products (11.8%), non-metallic mineral products, basic metal and fabricated metal products (8.0%), and electrical and electronics products (3.9%).
“The total number of employees engaged in the manufacturing sector in July 2020 was 2,192,260 persons, a decrease of 2.4% compared to 2,246,595 persons in July 2019,” said Mohd Uzir.
Meanwhile, salaries and wages paid amounted to RM7.09 billion, decreased by 3.2% or RM236.7 million, in July 2020 compared to the same month of the preceding year.
Simultaneously, the sales value per employee rose by 4.5% to RM54,403 compared to the same month in 2019.
Meanwhile, the average salaries and wages per employee was RM3,235 in July 2020.
