IJM’s Kuantan Port expands

06 Nov 2020

IJM Corp Bhd-owned Kuantan Port continues its expansion plan. Earlier this week, two units of ship-to-shore cranes were delivered via transporter vessel Zen Hua 29, by one of the largest crane manufacturers in the world, Zhenhua Heavy Industries Co (ZPMC).

Departed from Shanghai, China, the cranes sailed along the South China Sea, across the South-East Asian region, in a journey of nearly 5,000km and arrived in Kuantan Port after ten days.

Kuantan Port’s chief operating officer Mazlim Husin (pic) said the magnificent cranes are a part of the port’s container business expansion plan to optimise capacity and cater for the increasing demand from the industries in the East Coast to distribute their goods all over the world.

“Despite current unprecedented challenges caused by the global pandemic, Kuantan Port is still optimistic in carrying out expansion plans to provide a better quality of services to our existing customers and future clients. This will change the landscape of Kuantan Port and the services we deliver.” it said in a statement yesterday.

The new cranes are expected to be operational in the first week of December, adding to the four existing cranes at Kuantan Port, and are aimed at improving the moves per hour (MPH) from 18 MPH to 25 MPH.
