Path to a better future on a circular economy model

A circular economy aims to redefine growth and focus on benefits for society.
It entails gradually decoupling economic activity from the consumption of finite resources. It is a system that is restorative by intention and design.
Underpinned by a transition to renewable energy sources, the circular model builds economic, natural and social capital.
It is based on three principles: design out waste and pollution; keep products and materials in use; and regenerate natural systems.
The Star Media Group’s two-day live virtual Circular Economy Conference (CEC) 2021 on July 14 and 15 aims to map out and redefine growth while focusing on benefits for not only businesses but also the nation, and consequently contributing to a global effort to make changes for the betterment of mankind.
Thought leaders and industry experts from both Malaysia and abroad will guide participants on their journey towards building a circular economy model.
Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida) deputy CEO Ahmad Khairuddin Abdul Rahim will be sharing government policies and the benefits of implementing sustainability in corporations.
Keynote speaker is Eric Lim (pic), who is UOB Bank chief sustainability officer and head of group finance.
He leads a dedicated corporate sustainability office that is focused on achieving the bank’s objectives of helping businesses to advance responsibly, steering consumer wealth to sustainable investments and fostering social inclusiveness and environmental well-being.
Other speakers, who are Malaysian and international entrepreneurs, include Felix Bock who founded the ChopValue Microfactory franchise concept where he developed an innovative closed-loop engineered material.
