Silver Valley pilot project to be implemented in Kinta Free Industrial Zone

19 Aug 2021

The Kinta Free Industrial Zone has been selected for the implementation of the Silver Valley pilot project, a conceptual industrial corridor that focuses on the manufacturing and investment sectors.

State Corridor Development, Investment and Industry committee chairman Datuk Shahrul Zaman Yahya said to achieve the target the State must first upgrade the facilities and infrastructure in the industrial area to serve as a model for other districts.

“Perak is located between the States of Selangor and Penang which is an advantage for us to seek progress in the manufacturing and investment sectors. Under the Silver Valley initiative, we seek to make the whole State of Perak an inclusive and sustainable industrial corridor to ensure fair and balanced development.

“We want to see this aspect of development in the respective districts so that the locals are not left behind and marginalised,” he said, adding that the State government would ensure that Perak emerges as one of the most conducive, inclusive and sustainable investment locations in the country via the Silver Valley initiative.

He said this during the ‘Cer Citer YB’ programme aired over Radio PerakFM today.

He stressed that the Silver Valley concept is a long-term plan to ensure that all districts in the State receive benefits from the economic sector.

“We need to utilise the state resources, including world-class researchers from universities such as Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP), Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) and polytechnics besides offering material resources or natural resources needed by industries,” he added.

On the State’s investment performance this year, Shahrul Zaman described it as challenging and relatively slow due to the current Covid-19 pandemic.

“Until March, statistics indicated that a total of RM970 million investment was generated through 34 projects that created a total of 3,529 job opportunities compared to last year whereby we recorded investments in the manufacturing sector worth RM3.7 billion involving 104 projects with 7,158 jobs created,” he said.
