KMI Healthcare targets four new hospitals in five years

Terengganu state-owned Medic Iman Sdn Bhd Group (KMI Healthcare) is aiming to build four new hospitals in the next five years, as part of its strategic development plan.

KMI Healthcare chief executive officer Dr Rayney Azmi Ali said the four proposed hospitals are in Kemaman, Terengganu; Temerloh in Pahang; Kota Bharu in Kelantan and in Penang.

“The first to be ready is a 100-bed hospital in Kemaman to be built on a 2.18-hectare land owned by the Kemaman Municipal Council (MPK), with construction expected to begin in mid-2022.

“The hospital is slated to be operational in 2025, with construction cost amounting to more than RM100 million. When it is completed, residents in the southern part of Terengganu will be able to enjoy high quality healthcare and specialist treatment,” he said.

He said this to reporters after the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between KMI Healthcare and MPK here today, which was witnessed by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar.

Also present were KMI Healthcare chairman Raja Datuk Idris Raja Kamarudin and MPK president Jusman Ibrahim.

KMI Healthcare is a division of the state-owned TDM Berhad, which is listed on the main board of Bursa Malaysia.

Dr Rayney Azmi said KMI Healthcare was striving to be a leading network of Syariah-compliant hospitals that is trusted by the local community.

KMI Healthcare now has five hospitals under its network, namely KMI Kuala Terengganu Medical Centre here, KMI Kuantan Medical Centre (Pahang), KMI Kelana Jaya Medical Centre (Selangor), KMI Taman Desa Medical Centre (Kuala Lumpur) and KMI Tawau Medical Centre (Sabah).

Asked on KMI Healthcare’s revenue projection for this year, he said it had chalked up RM163 million as of September and was confident of hitting its RM220 million target.
