The Sarawak state government is developing the Sibu Industrial Park, sprawled over 61 hectares of land located at Jalan Sungai Maaw/Jalan Tanjung Manis, the first industrial estate specifically for small and medium enterprises (SMEs), with an allocation of RM114 million.
Sarawak Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said the industrial estate will be developed in three phases, whereby the first phase involving earthworks, construction of roads and division of lots have started.
The first phase is scheduled to be completed on February 22 next year, after being delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he said.
“The contractor that has been appointed has given the assurance to us today that the project can be completed within the new timetable that has been set,” he told the media during a visit to the project site today.
He said the state government has approved an allocation of RM50 million under the 12th Malaysia Plan to finance the industrial estate development.
Awang Tengah who is also Sarawak Minister of International Trade and Industry, Industrial Terminal and Entrepreneur Development, said the division of lots at the estate will be based on zone system according to the types of industries in order to be more orderly and systematic.
“Food processing industries will be housed in their own zone that is appropriate for food processing, the same goes for other industries. This is the first facility provided for SME entrepreneurs in Sibu as we know the people here are hardworking and have the expertise,” he added.
