Melaka urged to strengthen development as agro-industry, biotechnology investment destination

The Melaka state government has been urged to boost the state’s development as an agro-industry and biotechnology investment destination, in line with the development in science, technology and the Industrial Revolution 4.0.
Yang Dipertua Negeri Melaka Tun Mohd Ali Rustam said this could be implemented via the expansion of smart initiatives and the digital industry, as well as strengthening the use of data in the state’s development planning agenda.
“Melaka state government agencies should continue to work closely with the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) to attract high-quality investment in the manufacturing sector, especially in the catalycal sub-sectors, namely electrical and electronics, chemicals, machinery and equipment, aerospace and medical equipment.
“At the same time, there are still many opportunities in the services sector such as logistics, e-Commerce, green technology and renewable energy,” he said at the awards, honours and medals presentation ceremony in conjunction with his 72nd birthday celebration at the Seri Negeri Complex here today.
Mohd Ali said he also understood that MIDA was also focusing on new investments with elements of megatrends development, digital economy, e-Commerce and Industry 4.0; prioritising Autonomous Robots, Big Data Analytics, Cloud Computing, Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Augmented Reality.
“Investments with Industry 4.0 elements are in line with the Industry4WRD Policy launched by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry in an effort to transform the country’s manufacturing and services industries, to be more competitive with global companies,” he said.
Mohd Ali said the state government needed to continue with the development agenda that had been planned following the annual grant of RM210 million from the Federal government to Melaka.
He noted that 171 development projects with a total cost of RM5.53 billion had been approved to be implemented in Melaka involving RM574 million to be spent next year.
“My hope is that the initiatives that will be implemented are all-inclusive so that all levels of the society are not left behind in the current state development planning,” he said.
