The industry provides jobs to about 240,000 workers and in 2019, Malaysia’s exported wood and wood products valued at RM22.5billion which 40.6% emanates from wooden furniture and 15.1% emanates from plywood.
A total of 34 projects were approved with investments of RM707.75 million in the wood and wood products industry in 2019.

The furniture sub-sector recorded investments amounted to RM623.55 million in 40 projects in 2019. It is expected that the both above approved investment projects will generate a total of 5,320 job opportunities.

Adopting Modern Technologies
The Wood-Based and Furniture Industry has to adopt modern technologies to increase efficiency and produce more sophisticated products. We encourage innovation by promoting technical breakthroughs.
Exploiting successful new ideas results in innovative, fresh products for commercial gains. MIDA aims for the Furniture into to move from Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) and Original Design Manufacturer (ODM) to Own Brand Manufacturer (OBM).

Wood-Based and Furniture Industry one of the most important industries in the country. The government has set up a few Technical Agencies & Training Institutions to develop the skills of woodman craft.
Besides that, our local universities and colleagues also do offer courses that related to the industry such as Universiti Malaysia Sabah and Universiti Putra Malaysia. These local graduates are an immediate source of entry-level talent.
