First modular manufacturer to attain quality certification in Malaysia
29 Jan 2022
Home builder Petra Modular (M) Sdn Bhd has demonstrated its continued commitment to sustainability and higher standards of manufacturing.
It is the first modular manufacturer to obtain the Intelligent Building Systems (IBS) Impact Certification, in addition to ISO 9001 (quality management system) and Sirim certification.
With these prerequisites completed, Petra Modular — the modular technology arm under global Malaysian conglomerate Petra Group — is now on track to receive its “Pioneer” status to IBS certified modular manufacturers offered by the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida) under the government’s incentive scheme. In addition to ISO 9001, the company has also achieved ISO 14001 (environmental management system) and ISO 45001 (health and safety management system) to qualify for the integrated management system for a safer, more sustainable, environmentally friendly and higher standards of manufacturing.
Petra Modular managing director Rick Singh said, “The IBS Certification and ISO standards is a testament to how serious we are about quality and sustainability practices as we expand our modular technology footprint around the world, while solving the housing and accommodation challenges the cities are currently facing.”
The Petra Group was one of only 71 companies from around the world invited to the Vision 2045 summit, held in Edinburgh, Scotland, in conjunction with COP26, to share its sustainability practices and thoughts on addressing climate change with fellow thought leaders, government representatives and corporate heads.
“We hope that other manufacturers will also look towards enhancing their sustainable practices for the betterment of our future and equipping them with the ability to compete internationally,” Rick added.
Petra Modular provides building and housing solutions using proven propriety technology to deliver customised, reliable, sustainable and secure accommodation.
Modular technology can generate up to 90% reduction in waste and noise pollution because of off-site construction and efficient usage of materials while enhancing energy efficiency.
The company’s championing of sustainable practices is also in-line with the Petra Group’s sustainable strategy and ESG (environmental, social, governance) considerations.
The underlying philosophy that it applies is the concept of social capitalism – being profitable whilst ensuring sustainable wealth creation for the betterment of all, including employees, customers, society and the environments in which it operates.
The company is on track to expand its manufacturing facilities this year with three factories in the UK and three in Australia, in addition to its existing flagship factory in Port Klang, Malaysia.
