Johor ready to become regional medical device manufacturing hub, says MB

Johor wants to attract more medical-related manufacturing companies to set up their operations in the state.

Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said Johor is ready to become an important regional medical devices manufacturing hub.

“We have the right ecosystem to attract quality investments from all over the world,” he said at a press conference on Thursday (June 2).

Onn Hafiz said this during the groundbreaking ceremony of the Massachusetts-based Insulet Corporation’s Johor plant at Senai Airport City Industrial Park here.

He said the US$200mil to US$250mil investment by the company was a milestone for Johor.

Onn Hafiz said more investments would be coming to Johor in the months ahead according to the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida).

“We are finalising the details on the new investments and will share the information with the media when the time is right,” he said.

Onn Hafiz said the state government would be looking at reducing red tape to attract more investments into Johor.

He added that the Johor Investment Committee (JIC) is a platform for the state agencies to reduce red tape and challenges faced by investors.

“JCI will ensure the ease of doing business in Johor to be enjoyed by existing and potential investors,” he said.

Meanwhile, investment, trade and consumer affairs committee chairman Lee Ting Han said two medical devices manufacturing companies would be investing in Johor.
