Johor to set up Digital Council to promote digital banking
05 Aug 2020
The state government will set up the Johor Digital Council soon to help realise its aspiration to have a digital bank.
To make the digital bank a reality, the public should embrace the digital lifestyle in every aspect of their lives, Menteri Besar Datuk Ir Hasni Mohammed said at the launch of Johor E-Marketplace in Kota Iskandar here today.
Also in attendance were state Investment, Entrepreneur, Cooperative and Human Resources Committee chairman Mohd Izhar Ahmad, state Unity, Trade and Consumer Affairs Committee chairman Dr Chong Fat Full and State Secretary Datuk Azmi Rohani.
In April, he said, the state government had agreed to the establishment of a digital bank to spur the digital economy in Johor.
The bank would make the finance sector more inclusive and provide better quality financial services for all market segments, he said, noting that in 2014, 52 per cent of the people in Southeast Asia had used online banking services and the proportion was rising.
Meanwhile, on the programme he said, is a collaboration between the state government and e-commerce platform Shopee aimed at helping some 3,000 entrepreneurs in the state market their products in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
He said in conjunction with the launch, the state government will give attractive discount vouchers besides comprehensive skills and marketing training to the entrepreneurs involved.
“I urge all entrepreneurs in the state to grab the opportunity to raise their product quality, value and competitiveness via the Johor E-Marketplace taking place from Aug 9 to Dec 31,” he said.
