New era of smart healthcare centre established in Pulau Pinang

New era of smart healthcare centre established in Pulau Pinang

07 Jan 2023

Chang Gung Memorial Hospital (CGMH), Taiwan’s largest non-government hospital group, has established its first medical technology (MedTech) centre, Taiwan Advance Medtech Centre (TAMC), in Pulau Pinang.

TAMC executive director Datuk Dr Lee Toong Chow said that TAMC is a joint endeavor between Pulau Pinang technopreneurs and CGMH.

“TAMC emphasises on smart solutions, Al (Artificial Intelligence)-empowered healthcare, advanced robotics and cost-effective medical devices that are appropriate for local needs.

“The challenge for Malaysia’s national healthcare system, like that of any other country, developed or developing, is to have a healthcare system that is inexpensive and accessible to all,” he told reporters at the launching of TAMC today.

Moreover, he stated that the establishment of TAMC will result in the formation of close links with CGMH’s MedTech partners, allowing Malaysian healthcare practitioners to leverage the technology and solutions already in use at CGMH.

“TAMC aims to be the conduit between Malaysia and Taiwan, especially in monitors, robotic arms and cell therapies.

“TAMC’s formation will prove to be a positive investment for Penang. TAMC will lead to an enhancement of Penang’s medical device industry, ushering them into a new era of smart healthcare,” he said.

Dr Lee said that TAMC will enable telemedicine or long-distance clinics to be held regularly for further knowledge sharing on a local level.

“At the moment, we want to make sure that TAMC in Malaysia is doing well and later on we will consider other countries like Indonesia.

“Besides, TAMC’s existence is an eye opener to what the rapidly expanding and ever-innovative healthcare industry has to offer,” he added.
