Perak committed to developing solar power farms, says exco

The state government is committed to developing several big-scale solar farms in the state.

Science, Environment and Green Technology committee chairman Teh Kok Lim said via the Perak State Development Corporation (PKNPk) a big-scale solar farm project covering a 17.4ha (43acres) area in Kuala Bikam in Bidor was planned.

He said the project would generate 30 megawatts of energy through Gading Kencana Sdn Bhd.

“PKNPk through its subsidiary Majuperak Holdings Berhad (Majuperak), also owns a solar farm located in Keramat Pulai, near the Rural Transformation Centre (RTC) Gopeng which started operating in 2015 until now with an area of 1.8ha,” he said.

Teh said this when answering to a question posed by Tiw Tee Siang (PH-Tronoh) at the state assembly sitting on Tuesday (Sept 26).

Tiw queried the state government’s efforts to promote green technology, and its plans for solar farms.

Teh said the state government had also given a mandate to PKNPk to implement the pilot projects in Bukit Merah Lake, and Kenering Lake as a benchmark for the planning of big scale solar farms in Perak.

“Following that, Majuperak was appointed as a Strategic Partner Implementer through a letter issued by PKNPk in June to start the initial feasibility study and then develop the solar farms in the two locations.

“The development of these large-scale solar farms is an effort to catalyze the development of the green energy industry.

“Indirectly, this will help stimulate the economy and promote sustainable development,” he added.
