Selangor confident of contributing 30% of national GDP, says MB

The Selangor government is confident that the state will be able to increase its contribution to the nation’s gross domestic product (GDP) to 30% between 2025 and 2026.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said that this will be driven by projects such as the Integrated Development Region in South Selangor (Idriss) as well as the NCT Smart Industrial Park.

“With the injection of projects like NCT and Idriss, we are confident that we can galvanise more economic activities,” he told reporters after the NCT Group of Companies’ Smart Industrial Park ground-breaking ceremony here on Friday (April 7).

He added that such major initiatives would boost the state’s economic growth, and subsequently increase its contribution to national GDP, which stood at 24.8% in 2021.

Amirudin said despite the absence of major projects, Selangor’s contribution to national GDP had increased by between 0.2% and 0.5% per annum since 2018.
